John
joined the
Writing Center as director in 1998,
and has worked with students of International Relations, History,
Political Science, Legal Studies, Sociology, Environmental Science
and Public Policy. He has also been involved in developing writing
programs and centers in various countries in the region. Prior
to joining CEU he also
worked in the Baltic States, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic,
as well as in Germany, China, Finland and Turkey. John
is
currently chair of the European
Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing. His hobbies
are cycling, swimming, cooking and other people's languages. |

David
Ridout - Writing Instructor

David
has been teaching academic writing at CEU since 1997. Previous
to this, he taught general and specific English for the Australian
International Development Project. He has been involved in outreach
work in the fSU region focussing on teacher training and is
pursuing distance studies in ESP at Aston University. He also
manages the academic language element of the CEU Roma Access
Project. |

Bellers - Writing Instructor |

Robin
has been teaching academic writing for post graduate students
at CEU since 1999, and has also taught undergraduate academic
writing at Corvinus University, Budapest, since 2004. Prior
to coming to Budapest, he lived and worked in Spain, Portugal,
Hong Kong, and Colombia. His qualifications include a BA in
Ancient History and Classical Civilisations, MEd TTELT and RSA
Diploma TEFLA. Robins special interest, apart from academic
writing, is teacher training. His hobbies include sports and
games of all types and he now has a young daughter which means
he is permanently tired! |

Eszter
Timar joined the Writing Center in August 2002. She received
her MA degree in 1976 and her university doctorate in 1983.
After graduation, she worked as a teacher of Business English
at the Budapest College for Foreign Trade up to 1991, when she
joined the newly opened Bell School in Hungary. She acted as
Director of Studies until the closure of the school in June
2002. She has written English course books for the Hungarian
market and has been active as a teacher trainer working with
university students, as well as with practising teachers. Her
hobbies are walking, cycling and music. |

Thomas
Rooney has been teaching academic writing at CEU since 1996.
In that time he has taught and consulted with students from
all departments, including International Relations and European
Studies, Sociology and Anthropology, Economics, History, and
Philosophy. Before coming to CEU, he taught English as a Second
and Foreign Language in San Francisco and with the Peace Corps
in Hungary. Tom's interest in rhetoric is not limited to its
modern incarnations; he is currently working on a PhD in English
Renaissance Literature at Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem
in Budapest. |

Andi
has been teaching academic writing at CEU since 2004. She has
worked with students from all departments, especially focusing
on History, Gender and Philosophy. Currently she also teaches
Contemporary British Literature at the School of English and
American Studies at Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem
in Budapest. She holds MAs in German and English Language and
Literature Teaching and is pursuing her PhD at the same university,
specialising in Victorian and Postmodern English fiction, Literary
Theory and Cultural Studies. |

Réka
has been teaching academic writing at CEU since 2005. Before
joining CEU, she taught Academic Writing and Language Practice
at ELTE, Budapest. Her qualifications include MAs in English
and Latin Language and Literature and Translation and Interpretation
Studies. She is currently pursuing PhD studies in Language Pedagogy
at ELTE, specialising in Academic Writing. |
| Agi
Makary - Coordinator (Extension

Agi
has worked for CEU since 1996. She joined the Center for Academic
Writing in 2005. She holds a BA in English Teaching, and a Certificate
in Education and Training programs in the EU. Before joining
CEU she lived and worked in Great Britain for two years. Her
hobby is travelling, getting to know different cultures, and
she is especially interested in India and its traditions. |
