The nine summer schools held so far
(1996-2004) hosted 168 courses,
received 15,230 applications; 4,634 participants attended
and 1237 faculties taught the various courses.

Participant profile |
Participants have been accepted into the program from
92 different countries ranging from East and Central Europe and the former
Soviet Union to countries of Asia, Africa, North America and South America.
2,943 (64%) came from regional emerging democracies, 1,100 (24%) from countries
that became new EU member states in 2004, 251 (5%) from non-regional emerging democracies,
and 339 (7%) from developed countries. The majority of participants are junior
faculty and researchers, the rest of the participant body is constituted from
Ph.D. students, and professionals such as government officials, NGO workers,
etc.

Professors have come to teach courses from 53 different
countries so far. 11% of faculty were from the region, 33% from countries
that became new EU member states in 2004, 54% from Western
Europe, America, Canada, Australia, Israel and Japan, 2% from non-regional
