Course objectives
The course objective is to give information and
reflection about current methods and research in the fields of cultural
policy and management - and also to present innovations and solutions within
art management practices. Presenting crucial issues in the forms of debates,
with arguments from different sides, the course aims to stimulate academic
circles to enter this new discipline from different standpoints: political,
sociological, economic and, of course, within the methodology and approach
of cultural studies (cultural policies, cultural management, etc.) This
should contribute to the development of higher education in the social
sciences and humanities in the fields suffering from conservative and traditional
approach.
Aims
 |
to raise public debate and awareness about the importance
of art and culture for the development of the countries in the region |
 |
to answer the crucial need for education of professionals
for the new disciplines and new work methods (marketing managers, art entrepreneurs,
etc.) |
 |
to build a network of faculty and professionals in
the region, increasing interactions (mutual projects and other forms of
cooperation) |
 |
to reinforce the position of art management and administration
education in the region, and contribute toward the modernization and innovation
of classic academic disciplines and departments such as Political Sciences
(Cultural Policy missing), Sociology of Culture (both Cultural Management
& Cultural Policy lacking), Economics and Management (Enterpreneurship
in Culture), Law (Copyright Issues and Legislation in Culture), Librarianship
(Library Management), etc. |
 |
to reinforce the position of art management education
at art schools, where a larger overview of cultural policy and cultural
theory is often lacking. The role of cultural managers as policy makers,
administrators, strategists, programmers, entrepreneurs, marketing managers,
mediators and animators, has to be developed, and university courses have
to have their role in it. |
Course level, target audience
The course targets
* policy makers / public cultural administrators
at state, regional and city level
* high level managers of cultural institutions,
festivals or associations and cultural movements
* young researchers and academics at universities
and institutes: Cultural/Art Management, Cultural Studies (Sociology of
Culture), Political Sciences (Cultural Policy) and Media Theory and Communication.
