For detailed information candidates should refer to the relevant
departmental description in the Admissions Bulletin.
- Applicants to the Master's program must submit a 500-word typewritten
essay on the relevance of their academic/professional background
to further studies at CEU, and indicate their preferred research
topic and future career goals.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit GRE test scores,
three letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose. Applicants
who cannot take the CEU-administered institutional TOEFL must
submit substitute test scores along with the application documents.
- Applicants to the Master's programs (including MESPOM) must
submit a 350-word typewritten statement addressing: The origins
of their interest in environmental issues; how they hope to benefit
from the program; their future career plans; and their relevant
special interests. MESPOM candidates applying for Erasmus
Mundus scholarships must provide information on countries of their
residence
for work or study purposes for the last five years.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit: a statement
of purpose of maximum 500 words, describing the applicant's intellectual
history and his/her motivation in applying to the program as it
relates to career goals or other future plans; a maximum 2000-word
research proposal which should describe the proposed research
at CEU in detail, including all the key components; a copy of
a published journal article, book chapter, or other publication
by the author (optional).
- Applicants to the Master's program must submit a 500-word typewritten
statement of purpose, outlining their interest in the field of
gender studies and in this program, the relevance of their academic/
professional background to further studies at CEU, as well as
their research interests or ideas about the potential research
(topics, themes) they would like to undertake.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit three letters
of recommendation and a three-page research proposal. A research
interest with a comparative and/or integrative background or perspective
is preferred.
- Applicants to the Master's program must submit a 500-word typewritten
outline of their proposed research topic. The topic is expected
to fall within the broad thematic focus of the department. Previous
work on the subject should also be indicated. Applicants should
also indicate a preferred stream of interest (early modern, modern
or contemporary) and, if known, which courses or professors they
see as especially relevant to their interests.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit three letters
of recommendation and a three-page typewritten research proposal.
- Applicants to the Master's program must submit a 500-word typewritten
statement outlining their study and research interests.
- Applicants to the IRES PhD Track must refer to the entry requirements
for the PhD in Political Science.
- Applicants to the LLM and MA programs must submit a 300-word
handwritten essay on a specific legal or human rights issue of
special interest to them.
- Applicants to the SJD and DSP programs must submit a detailed
research proposal, including the proposed thesis, reason(s) for
choosing the topic, methodology, main problems to be researched,
and jurisdictions covered (2000 words, including literature).
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit a one-page statement
describing their interest in mathematics, their achievements,
and future goals.
- Applicants to the Master's program must submit a 500-word typewritten
outline of their proposed research topics.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit a three-page
outline of their MA thesis, a one- to two-page thesis proposal,
and a five-page typewritten description of the proposed research.
- Applicants to the Master's program must submit a 500-word typewritten
outline of their proposed research topic and one writing sample,
e.g. a term paper of minimum ten pages.
- Applicants to the History doctoral program with a specialization
in Nationalism Studies must submit a 500-word typewritten outline
of their proposed research topic and one writing sample, e.g.
a term paper of a minimum of ten pages, and must submit three
letters of recommendation.
- Applicants to the Political Science doctoral program with a
specialization in Nationalism Studies must meet the admissions
criteria of the Political Science doctoral program.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit a short statement
of purpose, indicating their proposed research, and an essay of
1500-2000 words on an appropriate philosophical topic. The essay
should discuss a philosophical problem of the applicant's own
choice; it can, but need not, be related to the applicant's studies
or to the topic of the applicant's proposed research.
- Applicants must submit a 100-word statement of purpose describing
the reasons why they are applying for the program, as well as
a 500-word typewritten exposition of a problem in political science
in which they are interested.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit a 100-word statement
of purpose discussing their field of scholarly interest and future
professional goals; a 500-word summary of their MA thesis; and
a 500-word outline for a doctoral dissertation on the topic that
they, at the time of application, think they would like to write
their thesis on, at CEU. The outline must clearly identify the
research question, how the thesis would add to the previous literature
on related issues, and what methods of analysis would be used
in the thesis.
- Applicants should submit one sample of written work in English
and a 500-word statement outlining which specialization they are
applying to, highlighting any relevant academic/work experience
and their reasons for applying.
- Applicants to the Master's program must provide a 500-word outline
of their proposed research topic for their MA thesis. Previous
work on the subject as well as research experience in related
fields, if any, should also be mentioned. The inclusion of a writing
sample, preferably a chapter from the undergraduate thesis, is
welcomed.
- Applicants to the doctoral program must submit three letters
of recommendation from professors who are familiar with their
work, and a three-page (double-spaced) research proposal. The
proposal should address the main research questions, sources and
methodology and place the topic in the context of previous research
in the field. A short bibliography (one page) on the topic should
be included. \
- Applicants must have a valid GMAT
score to be eligible for entry into management programs. Please
note that the average GMAT score for the Class of 2006 was 570.
- It is required to submit a Letter of Motivation for entry into
the MBA or MSc programs, totalling 1-2 pages in length.
Applicants to Doctoral Support Programs (except for Legal Studies)
must submit a three- to five-page description of their doctoral
thesis including research questions, theory and methodology, current
status of their projects, a one- to two-page research proposal and
a letter of support from their doctoral supervisor.
