The Department of Political Science is committed to sustaining a geographically diverse and multicultural student body. To further this goal, the department accepts financial aid applications from students from all over the world. All accepted PhD candidates receive a full scholarship package (worth approx. 750 EUR/month). The department is proud that about 90% of the MA students receive some kind of financial support that can range from tuition waiver to a full stipend (worth approx. 360 EUR/month) for the duration of the program.
The department also wishes to recognize student excellence, therefore each academic year a number of additional scholarship packages is available for enrolled students, which last from January till June.

CEU-Special Projects Office: Support for Modular PhD at CEU
The program is designed for the junior faculty of HESP supported institutions* and HESP AFP Departments** who would like to pursue modular studies for the degree of PhD at the Central European University. A modular doctoral program allows the students to work on their dissertation while remaining at the same time closely connected to their home departments. It is a flexible program with an individualized approach that does not require continuous residence on the university premises. The program is divided into modules, some of which require the student’s presence at CEU (e.g. coursework modules), while some others can be completed at a distance (e.g. fieldwork, writing up). For more information please contact the CEU Special Projects Office.*HESP – International Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Institute

The link below is also promising. While there is a focus on language learning to qualify it is ok if you are studying in English so long as you also study a language. The requirement to ‘work for the government’ may look worrying but at least one former CEU student was able to fulfill this requirement by being a TA in a US university.
