Departmental Seminar
Welcome to this page!
I am very delighted to launch our Departmental
Seminar which aims to provide a forum for students and faculty, including visitors. After several years of successful development
of our department, it is the time to offer our mathematical community
a proper framework for discussions on various topics in mathematics
and its applications. The seminar is going to be mainly based on talks
that are easily accessible to a broad audience, so speakers are advised
to present the main ideas and avoid details. Our students will have
the possibility to discuss within this framework their research topics,
including their own findings. Sometimes, we will schedule public lectures
given by our faculty members or visitors. There will be weekly one hour
sessions during term time.
After consultation with our faculty members and
students, I have decided to include this seminar into our teaching
programs. It will be mandatory for first, second and third year PhD
students, as well as for MS students, starting the winter term of their
first year. Our faculty members are invited to attend as often as possible.
The first talk will be given by Martin Le Doux
Mbele Bidima (PhD Candidate) in the first week of the winter
term, on Friday (January 9, 2009). He will be talking about Artbitrage
and Optimal Investment in Financial Markets. Please visit from time
to time our web page on Sessions to find out the list of future talks.
Sincerely yours,
Gheorghe Morosanu, PhD
Professor and Department Head
