Dear Alumni and Friends

Welcome to this special page!

Our department is interested in keeping in touch and cooperating with all of you, alumni and friends. Your ideas and possible suggestions will be higly appreciated. If you need consultation or expertise, don't hesitate to contact us.We can also offer space for you to publish your CVs and/or other documents which are important either for you or for your employer.

I would be happy if you could spread information on our department wherever you are. This is particularly needed for recruitment purposes. As you know, we have a renowned  faculty team, with representatives of many important fields in both pure and applied mathematics. Furthermore, our student body is refreshed every academic year with outstanding students from different countries. They are attracted by our high quality graduate programs, which succesfully combine American and European principles and experience in higher education and research. It is worth mentioning that twelve of our PhD candidates have already defended, most of them summa cum laude, while other outstanding students are expected to defend soon their dissertations. This makes our department comparable with the best similar departments in the world. Click here to find out more about our alumni.

I hope you will also consider making donations to our department. Every gift will make a difference to the department  in many ways - improving our IT technology, bringing in outstanding scholars, supporting students and faculty, special events, etc. Every donation, whatever its size, is needed and appreciated. Corporations, foundations, banks, embassies,  governmental and EU organizations are also strongly encourraged to contribute to the development of our department.

I express my sincere gratitude to the many alumni and friends who have generously supported our department (see or web page on Donations).

Best regards,

Gheorghe Morosanu, PhD

Dear Alum,

Educational innovation and academic excellence continue to be CEU’s hallmark. The Department of Mathematics and its Applications, in particular, is growing and remains committed to providing a high-level of Mathematics education to the field’s future leaders.

It is worth pointing out that both our programs (the PhD Program in Mathematics and its Applications and the MS Program in Applied Mathematics) are getting stronger and stronger, in particular due to our successful cooperation with the Alfred Renyi Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Our department, which begun its existence in 2001, has already produced 14 doctors (most of them defended their theses summa cum laude) and other several PhD candidates intend to defend soon their dissertations. Let me also point out that many research papers written by our students have been published during the last years by highly acclaimed mathematics journals.

On the other hand, our first generation of MS students is going to successfully graduate this year, showing that our MS program is also on the right track.

In the past few years, a couple of changes have taken place. Although CEU has maintained and even improved the quality of its education, it cannot offer full scholarships to all students anymore. That’s why your gifts to your own department are so important. Your financial support of the university can fuel the engines of excellent research and allow a wealth of resources to be available for current CEU students’ needs.

CEU scholars stand on the shoulders of a significant legacy left by alumni like you, who are committed to making their university, and their department, a better place with their annual contributions. This year we have undertaken a very special campaign in honor of the 80th birthday of CEU’s founder, George Soros.

Today you can set a new standard of giving for your fellow alumni to strive towards by sending your contribution to CEU:  http://arcs.ceu.hu/donation .

To double the size of your gift, please check if your employer has a matching gift program. You may designate your contribution to the alumni scholarship fund or your department, or you may choose to make an unrestricted gift by contributing to the annual fund.

I hope to have the chance to see you at the upcoming Alumni Reunion Weekend on May 20-22!

Sincerely,

Gheorghe Morosanu,
