General information for participants in the 2008
CAED – COST Conference
Dear Participants,
We are looking forward to seeing you at the CAED conference in
Budapest. The general schedule, program, and links to hotels and a map of
downtown Budapest can be found on the website (www.upjohn.org/caed).
If you have not yet made a full paper available, please do so by
updating your registration and entering a url. You may bring
hard copies of your paper to your session if you choose, but we will
not make or distribute photocopies.
Budapest Airport transfers: The easiest way to get to your
hotel is an airport taxi, which has a fixed price for trips to the city
center. You may also take a minibus, which is a bit cheaper,
but frequently requires a wait of half an hour or more.
Local transportation: Most hotels are walking distance from
CEU. If you want to take a taxi somewhere in the city, we
strongly recommend calling a taxi company (for example, City Taxi at
36-1-211-1111) rather than hailing one on the street. The
boat dock on Saturday evening is a very nice 20-minute walk to the Buda
side of the river. Taxi is another option for getting there.
Entry into CEU: The CEU is in the center of the Pest business
district, and all entrances are guarded. Entry usually
requires either a CEU ID card or specific appointment. When
you first come to CEU, please enter at Nador utca 9, corner of Zrinyi
utca. At the guard desk, explain that you are participating
in the CAED conference and would like to go to our table in the
Octagon, the adjoining atrium, to obtain your name badge.
Thereafter, your CAED badge will be accepted by the guards.
The badge will also be required for admission to sessions and meals.
Locations inside CEU: The opening reception, coffee
breaks, and lunches will be on the ground floor in 3 connecting
atriums: the Octagon, the “laptop area,” and the front of the
Auditorium. Rooms on 3 levels will be used for
sessions. The Auditorium is on the ground floor, the Popper
and Gellner Rooms are on the 1st floor (above the Mezzanine), and Rooms
201-203 are on the 2nd floor directly above the Gellner Room.
The easiest staircase is the one leading up from the laptop area, and
there is also a nearby elevator.
All parallel sessions allow an average of 30 minutes per paper,
including presentation and discussion. Each session has a
Chair-Discussant who will keep time, make comments, and lead
discussion. The sessions provide about 30 minutes for each
paper. The session chair will decide the exact procedure, but
usually all papers will be presented followed by discussion from the
chair and finally by general discussion. Each room will have a computer
and projector with Office 2003 software (if you use 2007, please save
your presentation file in 2003 format on your flash drive in advance).
No computers are available for general use in CEU, but the University
has a centrally located “laptop area” (close to the Auditorium) with
open access wireless.
For those of you participating in the COST Management Committee or
Working Groups, please come to the relevant meeting (Thursday at 1 pm
in the Gellner Room for the former, 3:30 pm in the Auditorium for the
latter), if you can.
