Course Description

The aim of this seminar is to find the similar features and the differences between the social structure and its cultural impact in our region and in the most developed part of Europe. The proposed fields are: history of mentality in early modern period, problems and definition of the nobility, way of living of the peasants, schooling, literacy and book culture. Further proposals concerning fields of interest are welcome. Reading parallely materials concerning this problems in England, France, Germany, and in the Central European countries, we discover together the boundaries of Central Europe. Special attention will be paid to the methodological problems, to the difficulties of comparison between different social realities.
