The IT Department is responsible for the overall software development at CEU,
software maintenance, hardware acquisitions, and the phone system.
IT provides support to its computer users through the Helpdesk.
All student computer accounts are set up and maintained by IT
upon request from the Admissions Office and the department/program.
After the end of the academic year, student accounts are closed
on July 31, unless the department advises otherwise.
Note: IT provides technical support for CEU's website.
However, the unit does not take responsibility for the content of
the web pages. Students must observe the Web Policy.

CEU maintains a computer network and connections to the Internet
as a service for all members of the CEU community: faculty, students,
and staff. There are around 109 computers available for Master's
level students, and 88 computers available for doctoral students
in the Nador u. complex. In addition, the CEU Residence Center houses a lab of 23 computers for both Master's and doctoral
students (including non-resident students). There are also 266 computers
in the dormitory rooms.
User regulations and procedures can be found in the "Guidelines
for Use of Network and Computing Resources" and in the CEU
Residence and Conference Center House Rules and Regulations.
The network system (GroupWise) provides a Noticeboard feature where
students can post personal messages accessible to all students ("Noticeboard
for Students" and "Noticeboard for CEU" to be accessed
through the GroupWise Address Book). Students can distribute only
strictly work/study-related messages through the network system.
Please
visit the Computer and Statistics Center's info page at http://www.ceu.hu/computer_statistics.html,
or the center's own website at: http://www.personal.ceu.hu/departs/comp/
All CEU students are required to place their personal ID card in
the cardholder situated on the computer while using CEU computers
in any of the labs.

CEU has set up independent department-based Doctoral Study Rooms

and the Doctoral Coordinator in each department monitors the lists
of students who are permitted access to the premises. All of the
Doctoral Study Rooms listed below are open ONLY for the use of doctoral
students:
- Economics Nador u. 11 bldg., Room 416/B

Access to the rooms is based on lists provided by the Doctoral
Coordinator to the security guards at each entrance where the Study

and must be returned to the security guard at the end of the day.
Doctoral students are expected to take full responsibility for the
access logistics and passing on of the room key as necessary.
There are two CEU laptop areas. Sixteen places are available at
the ground floor display area, and another 16 are located directly
above on the first floor. In both areas, network cable jacks are
located along the bottom rim of the wall. Laptops of any type and
configuration can be used, as long as they are in line with the
following requirements:
- 10/100 network card
- TCP/IP protocol
- Automatic DHCP setting
- UTP network cable
If you have a valid CEU account, you can reach your mailbox via
http://gw.ceu.hu (through any Internet
browser, such as Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator) and your
P: drive files are available via ftp://ftp.ceu.hu.
In order to be able to use these services you will need to login
using your Username and Password. Please note that the CEU Network
policy (http://www.ceu.hu/downloads/Network.doc)
applies to anyone who uses the CEU Network. (NB: ITSU does not configure
students` laptops)
- CEU students have a quota for the number of free pages they
can print. As requirements differ from department to department,
the exact quota depends on the department in which the student
is enrolled.
- When the quota is used up, students may purchase further pages
at the CEU Cash Desk. Upon presentation of the receipt to any
of the ITSU Helpdesks, the student's quota is adjusted within
a working day.
- In the event of a printer running out of toner, students should
withhold their documents from printout. The Helpdesk should be
notified immediately.
- Before printing, students should check their quota-the remaining
number of pages can be checked in the Novell-Delivered Application
Launcher.
- The printing quota is granted for the Academic Year; savings
are carried over to the next Academic Year.
Ext. 3030 (Student Helpdesk, Nador u. 9. Basement):

to the Helpdesk so that the owner can retrieve the item.
