An
OSI Alumni Conference was held on March 30, 2005 in Baku. Alumni,
fellows and participants of various Soros-funded research and
education programs participated in this event. In the first panel
OSI-AF alumni discussed the current situation of those graduates
who received education in western countries. Panel participants
discussed recent survey held among OSI-AF alumni, the results
were presented by Fuad Aliyev (POLS '02). Alumni shared their
opinion about high school and university education in the US.
At the same time, OSI-AF Masters in Social Work program and participants
of Salzburg Medical Seminars gave reports on the work that they
were involved with. Along with achievements, OSI-AF alumni talked
about problems that they face with. As it became apparent, the
problems are common not only for OSI-AF alumni but for all alumni
in Azerbaijan. There is a lack of network between them and indifference
on the part of the Government. Panel participants came up with
concrete proposals to organize a conference not for OSI-AF alumni
in Azerbaijan and to establish Alumni Mass Media source to have
alumni voices heard. CEU
