Financial Regulations and Payment Information

General Deposit

A General Deposit is due upon a student's confirmation of acceptance of a place of study at CEU. The deposit can be paid by wire-transfer directly to CEU, paid on-line, or paid in other ways as indicated in the following Methods of Payment section. For payment of the General Deposit on-line see http://www.ceu.hu/student_online_deposit.html. Please note that by on-line payment the sum of 100 Euro equals 120 dollar and 500 Euro equals 600 dollar. Please do not use the general deposit payment line for paying the enrollment fee.

For students who have confirmed their place of study but do not enroll at the university, the General Deposit is not refundable after May 31. For students who enroll, the sum of 100 EUR is used as a damage deposit for the length of their study. The deposit will be refunded shortly before graduation or withdrawal from CEU as part of the leaving procedure, less any damage costs assessed or fees outstanding on the student’s account.

For students not receiving financial aid from CEU, the general deposit is 500 EUR. From this amount CEU will apply 400 EUR towards the first installment of tuition and fees due, and will retain the remaining 100 EUR as a damage deposit, which will be refunded upon completion of studies.

4. On-line payment only for enrollment fee

There is a possibility to pay the enrollment fee on-line with bank card. The web-page address where you can find information about the on-line payment service (Click and Pledge) is the following: http://www.ceu.hu/online_payment.html.

On the webpage please choose the item called ‘payment’ and put the amount calculated with the daily currency rate at the IEB converter.

The official currency of the on-line payment system is USD. When you are paying you are kindly requested to change the amount of the enrollment fee (100 Euro) to USD with the daily currency exchange rate. (Please read carefully the section of ‘Conversion of fees’, where you can find detailed information on this issue.)

All other forms of payment must be approved by the CEU Budget and Finance Office. For details, please contact Judit Simardi at (36-1) 327-3000/ext. 2056, e-mail: simardij@ceu.hu.

Conversion of fees

All fees are determined in Euro but it is also possible to pay in another currency. If you pay at the cash desk, the cashier uses the IEB daily currency exchange rate.

If you pay via wire transfer, check or on-line, please always use the IEB daily currency exchange rate converter for conversion:

http://www.ieb.hu/CurrencyExchangeRates.aspx.

You can choose English menu – you can find the sign of English flag on the right top of the page.

Please be sure, that you are using the daily currency rate. You have to change the converter from cash to A/M– which you find on the left bottom of the page.

The calculator works very simple: you are asked to write in the first place the amount you have to pay and select Euro. In the second place please choose the currency in what you would like to pay and press ‘calculate’. Within few seconds the result will appear.

Late Payments, Late Fees and Penalties

On tuition fee due dates, the Budget and Finance Office (BFO) sends a Statement of Account to each student, detailing the status of his/her account.

If a student's account becomes overdue, the BFO will issue a formal reminder, and a 20 Euro late fee will be added to the balance.

The student will then be granted a period of five working days to pay the overdue amount. After five working days, the student will be sent a second Reminder for Overdue Tuition Fee and the individual's access to university facilities will be suspended (in accordance with the CEU Policy on Holds-see following). If the student's account is not settled within three working days of the second reminder, his/her student status will be terminated for non-payment.

Policy on Holds

Failure to meet any obligation to the university, including those conditions set forth in the individual's enrollment confirmation form and financial obligations, will result in suspension of access to student services including-but not limited to-transcripts, diplomas, access to the CEU computer network, the CEU Library, medical services, the University Information System (rental accommodation database, matriculation form, class registration), research grants and fellowship stipends until the obligation is met and the hold is cleared by the respective office.

Refund of Tuition and Fees

In case of withdrawal, the following refund schedule will apply:

  • If a student withdraws before September 30 (Semester I) or January 20 (Semester II), CEU will refund 80% of the tuition and fees installment paid.
  • If a student withdraws by the end of the official add/drop period (in the first and second semester), CEU will refund 40% of the tuition and fees installment paid. The Student Records Office establishes the official add/drop period. Further information on add/drop dates is available in the Student Records Manual.

There will be no refund of tuition fees after the official end of the add/drop period or after April 1.
